You guys, I'm obsessed with my Happy Planner. Every year, I search for the perfect day planner to use for my writing life. Keeping track of dozens of deadlines and freelance payments was too hard to do digitally, so I use a planner.
And let me tell you, it's sooo worth it. I highly recommend using a physical planner and I'll tell you why below.
So, what are you waiting for? Read more and then go buy your planner!
How I Use My Physical Planner
This year, I decided to use my planner a little differently. Last August, I got a full-time job as a professional resume writer, so my deadlines greatly decreased. I went from having 5-6 deadlines a day to 1.
Of course, this wasn't enough for me, so I also started writing content around this time. More on that another time.
Anyway, while my deadlines weren't as extensive, I now have meetings and other things to keep track of. So, last December I started researching planners. I've used the more expensive ones and the cheap ones, but I think the Happy Planner is my favorite.
It's not too expensive, like $25-$50, so I don't feel like I'm wasting money. And it has the same great features as the more expensive brands! I got the zodiac them for last year.
But I was just looking...and I think I'm getting this one for next year. I may buy my planner earlier than I ever have this year. It's just SO pretty!
Accessories Are Vital
I might be crazy. This is related and unrelated, so I thought I'd tell you.
I decided to buy a large selection of felt tip pens for my planner. And that I was going to color-code each month. Let me tell you...it's beautiful and it makes writing down each deadline so much more enjoyable.
Do you want to know what colors I'm going with each month? Good, cause I'm going to tell you.
January = dark pink
February = purple
March = green
April = light pink
May = turquoise
June = orange
July = dark blue
August = a medium pink
September = a lighter blue
October = black, purple, or orange (I can't decide, help!!)
November = brown
December = red
The pens I bought are so smooth and make the pages so pretty. And they don't bleed, so your pages stay beautiful. The photo is below :) (I had to cover my clients' names)
This was the second week of February and you can see I tracked deadlines, word counts, and meetings. I wrote over 26,000 words this week!

If you're a writer or someone with a lot of deadlines, there is satisfaction in being able to mark things off each day. And tracking my word count has been really eye-opening.
I expected maybe a couple of hundred thousand for the year. I'm already over 300,000 for the year in early May.
The Happy Planner also makes sticker packs that go with each theme. That means your entire planner can be coordinated and it just makes me so excited!
Are you going to get one? Leave me a comment if you do and tell me which one you picked!
